The Essential Deodorant
I have discovered a new found love that you cannot separate me from – Doterra Essential Oils
These beauties do wonderful things. They can be used aromatically, topically and some can even be taken orally in small amounts where advised safe.
All I can say is I’m obsessed!
In the near future I will be doing a blog post about the magnificent uses of essential oils, so keep your eyes peeled! Also if you have any questions about essential oils or would like to purchase some, please don’t hesitate to contact me through the ‘Contact Me’ tab.
One of the major uses of essential oils is for personal products. The first thing I switched to about a year ago was a non-toxic deodorant. It can be so hard to find a good quality deodorant that is completely natural. I have found some brands that actually work but can be quite pricey! So I’ve gone ahead and developed a deodorant using a blend of essential oils and your average pantry ingredients.

The 3 oils I used:
Lemon
A powerful cleansing agent
Purifies the air and surfaces
Energizing, elevating and invigorating
Frankincense
Promotes feelings of relaxation and overall wellness
Rejuvenates the skin
Lavender
Calming and relaxing
Soothes occasional skin irritations
As you can see, these oils have amazing benefits. And now you’ll have a deodorant that will not only work, but also make you smell amazing, and feel good!
The 3 other ingredients used:
Coconut oil
Is approximately 50% lauric acid. A component of lauric acid known as ‘monolaurin’ has been proven to have antiviral and antibacterial effects
Baking soda
Has antimicrobial activities
Neutralizes acids
Absorbs excretions
Controls moisture
Arrowroot Powder
Absorbs excretions
Controls moisture
I hope you enjoy this recipe, for me it personally does an amazing job! In colder weather the deodorant does tend to hard so by taking a small out and warming it in your hands, it will be easier to apply.
Please don’t hesitate to leave me some feedback on how you go with it!

Ingredients:
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup aluminium-free baking soda
¼ cup arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)
Lemon, frankincense and lavender essential oils (you could use others but I think these work really well!)
Method:
In a small bowl, add the coconut oil, baking soda and arrowroot powder until well combined. Add 8 drops each of the lemon, frankincense and lavender oils and stir gently until combined. Add to clean jar and use as needed – a little goes a long way!
Note: Some essential oils can cause skin sensitivity due to their potency. Always read the label prior to using an oil and test on an area of skin when advised.
